2019:New Director, Same Direction
Greetings Hamilton Jazz Fans
What an honour it is to be continuing the great work Chris Ferguson has begun with The Steel City Jazz Festival. First, let me reassure everyone, Chris is still involved! This year he’ll be taking a small step back as he and his wife Emily prepare for the birth of their first child. Congratulations to them!
It must have been early 2011 when I saw Chris’s post which basically read “Anyone want to start a Hamilton Jazz Festival?” I replied right away, which led to my band, The Jazz Connection Big Band playing the first ever show of The Steel City Jazz Festival in the summer of 2012. I’ve been involved, one way or another, every year since and it’s been awesome seeing the festival evolve and flourish.
I’m very excited to share what I have planned for the 2019 edition of The Steel City Jazz Festival. Watch this site and our Facebook page in the coming days for updates and mark November 6,7,8 and 9, 2019 on your calendars.

As a former Hamiltonian born and raised, I wish you all the best. I moved to the west almost 40 years ago and I am grateful to have had something to do with Calgary’s first jazz festival in 1980. Again keep it rolling…
